File Conversion in Process, Converter Failed To Save File

On some machines, when a user opens an Excel file from SharePoint and checks out for edit and -does not- use the local drafts folder, yousee a dialog with "File Conversion In Progress", then "ConverterFailed To Save File" message, but the file is checked out to the user and will not open in the Excel. It never opens the application and I'm returned to the document library. If I already have the application it doesn't generate the error.

The fix is to do the following:

- Open Word
- Click the Office button (Top-left in the window)
- Click Word Options
- Click Resources
- Click the Diagnose button
- Click through the wizard until it’s finished
- Close all browser windows

That’s fixed all of our issues…

I hope the above information will helps u to resolve the issue !! Thanks !!

  5. Try opening Word in safe mode and then open the document to check if opens. To open Word in safe mode, Click Start > Run > type WinWord /safe

Note: There is a space b/w windows and /.

Now click the Office button > Open > Browse to the document and try opening it and check what happens.

If you are able to open the file, the issue might be caused due to add-ins installed.

Check the link below to disable add-ins.

  6. In our company we are using vconvert add-on for document conversion. You have multiple conversion options and you can also integrate conversion process in workflow. Demo is for free and the full version was also very cheap (server-license-model). Maybe it will be also interesting for you: http://www.vialutions.com/products/sharepoint-add-ons/vconvert/

  7. I have the same problem in SharePoint 2010 and Excel 2010 - however, I can open the Excel file from the SharePoint site if I choose View in Browser or Edit in Browser... although it gives me an error message that "the workbook cannot be opened because it contains the following features that are not supported by Excel in the Browser - Data Validation" It then offers me the option to open the file in Excel, and if I click Yes the file then opens.

In 2010, there is no Resources option in the File>Options window and I can find no Diagnose button.

I've tried disabling the add-ins; the only ones I have are the Sharing Add-in for Lync 2010, Business Contact Manager and Solver, but this has no effect. If I already have Excel open (with the add-ins disabled), it works though.

Any help you can provide on this please? Many thanks.

  8. Office Diagnostics, also known as Customer Watson, is removed for all Office 2010 applications. Because of shifting resources, the focus must be on analysis and reporting features that have been proven beneficial for other teams. Users must now run the repair utility from the Control Panel.

Please check and let me know hhe results, Thanks for your patience

  9. This worked for me as well - thanks. But what does the diagnostics process do? The results say that it didn't have to do anything. Just curious.

  10. Microsoft Office Diagnostics in the 2007 Microsoft Office system is a series of diagnostic tests that can help you discover why your computer is crashing (closing abnormally). The diagnostic tests can inform you about problems and might identify ways that you can solve other problems.

For help with error messages, email, downloads and other issues, you can learn about the Solution Center, support options, and other useful links at Microsoft Help and Support

  11. Please, Please help... I am getting the message that states converter failed to save... I am using a computer that has Windows 7 and using microsoft 2010 (home & student version) I couldn't find the office button when I opened word. Could you give me step by step directions to repair this on my computer. Also, will I lose all the documents that I currently have in word? I can still read some of them.
Thanks in Advance for any help you can provide
